Partnering with plant lovers

The Preserve is excited to be collaborating with the Maine Horticulture Apprentice Training program at the University of Maine by offering an apprenticeship to Christa Little-Siebold of Ellsworth.

Christa began working in March and will continue through December. She will divide her time between the greenhouses at McAlpin Farm and out on the natural lands around Little Long Pond. The work will expose Christa to plant propagation/cultivation methods and practices for establishing plants in wild and garden settings, with an emphasis on native plants.

In our greenhouses, Christa is potting plant material, transplanting seedlings, and starting seeds. On the natural lands, she will work with the team on meadow restoration, planting perennial forbs, graminoids and trees in the meadows, and ensuring establishment of planted stock.

We are grateful to Robert Whitman and Jeffrey Munger for their generous donation that funded a portion of this apprenticeship.
