Rhododendron 'mucronatum'

The collection of rhododendron at the garden is unusual in that it contains some very old specimens -- some of which were transplanted to the garden after being removed from the Bar Harbor estate of Beatrix Farrand in 1956. The exact origin of each azalea and the precise identification of all of these older plants remains a work in progress although most have been carefully researched and are tagged and labelled at the garden. The garden is also adding new plants available in the commercial trade. For a list of most of the identified rhododendron at the garden, click here to download a Home Gardener's Rhododendron Reference List in pdf file format.
